New CAFE
standards allow for towing considerations from RVIA
While
the new levels will encompass a majority of vehicles that
tow RVs, there is good news for the RV industry in the
legislation.
President Bush signed into law
the first increase in automobile fuel economy in 32 years,
mandating automobile manufacturers meet a (CAFE) standard of
35 miles per gallon (mpg) by 2020.
First,
separate fuel economy standards for cars and trucks will be
maintained with different standards to be set for pickup
trucks weighing between 8,500 and 10,000 pounds and for
medium- and heavy-duty trucks. Second, the framework for
establishing fuel economy is based on “one or more vehicle
attributes” which will allow consideration of vehicle towing
capacity.

USRider Cautions Horse Owners about Carbon
Monoxide Poisoning.
Lexington, Ky., (Oct. 15, 2007) –
Two children and their grandparents from Tomah, Wis., were
killed by carbon monoxide fumes inside the horse trailer where
they were sleeping the night of Oct. 11. The family runs a
well-known Clydesdale horse-breeding operation called Clay’s
Clydesdales. They were in Madison, Wis., for the World
Clydesdale Show.

Trucks, New Race. The Year of Emissions.
 The
excitement builds with each jet ride to the next new truck media
launch, biggest year I can remember for major truck changes.
Most of it brought about by the new low emission laws for diesel
engines that began January 07. GM totally redesigned the whole
truck. Ford has the most mechanical changes with a new nose and
diesel engine, Dodge changed the diesel for the new emissions
law and reintroduced it's CC model.

2004 Dodge Cummins HO Budget Hop

diesel in the fall of 2003. I was nearing retirement age and my
wife and I decided that a pickup and travel trailer would be he best
combination for us as I wanted to keep the pickup bed open to haul
my dirt bikes and mountain bike. We were really looking for a low

N.Y. – General Motors Corp. will introduce a new, state-of-the-art
4.5L V-8 Duramax turbo-diesel that improves engine fuel efficiency by 25
percent, reduces CO2 emissions by 13 percent and cuts particulates and
NOx emissions by at least 90 percent for North American light duty

covered! You hear me complaining about oil
capacity on this website constantly. Now I found a way to add 2 or 3 more
quarts of oil to your tranny and differential. The more oil, the more
cooling ability, the longer your truck will stay out of the shop and on the
road! Pulling trailers builds extra heat in your engine, transmission and
axles. You need extra oil capacity and a cover designed for cooling, not the
stamped flat pans and covers truck manufactures buy 100,000 at a time from
the cheapest bidder. It's up to you to give your truck the longest life.

Active Fuel Management Cylinder Deactivation shows in the dash
when switching from V8 to V4, all seamless you wouldn't know it
if you didn't look at the indicator in the dash. This is part of
reason this new Tahoe gets 21 highway mpg EPA rating on the
4x4.. Even with a bolder bigger nose, the Tahoe has 8% less drag

Ford Expedition EL, longer, stronger and a 6-speed. I took
the new Expedition through the winding Washington hills as fast
the tires would hold me. It handled superbly, with no
resemblance of the old leaning SUV's we drove a few years back.

took the 07 Sport Trac off road near Camp Pendleton. With front
& rear traction control, it climbed like a rock crawler. Having
traction control instead of limited slip or locking
differential, allowed me to turn corners in 4WD, have traction
and no wheel hop. Roll Stability Control, standard on the Sport
Trac, great for a truck with an empty bed as well as stability
in bad road conditions. I think all trucks need it.

Cover for the Chevrolet SSR.
 Inglewood,
CA – PML announces an aftermarket differential cover for the
Chevrolet SSR. The cover features extra capacity, sand cast
aluminum construction, and a drain hole with a magnetic
drain plug. PML designed this cover for the Torsen 10 bolt
rear axle found in 2003-06 SSR with automatic transmission
and other GM vehicles such as Trailblazer, Envoy, Colorado,
Canyon, Olds Bravada, and Buick Renier.
This differential cover increases fluid capacity by 0.5

 PML Ford F250 Differential Covers Install,
 If you've read your trucks owner manual, there is a different
schedule for normal use and "severe or trailer towing". For some
maintenance schedules you change oil twice as often for severe use. Towing
stress creates heat, heat breaks down the oil faster and you know what
happens next. A lot of us overload our trailers especially using
3/4 and one ton pickups.

(Sept. 8, 2006) – Flat tires are the leading cause of
disablements involving horse trailers. USRider is involved
in a research project with Dr. Tomas Gimenez to test the
benefit (if any) of using air vs. nitrogen to inflate tow
vehicle and horse trailer tires. An electronic air-pressure
monitoring system is being used to assist with the research.
During the research, Dr. Gimenez and USRider have noted
significant safety benefits resulting from using this
system.

curves seemed easier to handle. Towing a 8000 lb Featherlite

 If you follow
my articles, you know how big a fan of new technology I am. At the new
Transwest Truck Trailer RV facility, is an
awesome machine called a Road Simulator. Looks kind of like a dyno, but
does use rollers to test brakes rolling resistance and balance. Transwest uses it to test all their new horse trailers so
they are ready for your roads. It can find
just a torn axle seal leaking on the brakes. It would surprise you how
many "new axles" on new trailers are over greased, limiting your trailer
brakes ability. With the kind of traffic we
